Craig Shultz joins Mid-America Publishing
Craig Shultz, a new editor for Mid-America Publishing, is taking charge at the Ogden Reporter and the company's most recently acquired newspaper, the Madrid Register News.
A Boone County native, Shultz was born in Ames and went to school at Grand Elementary in Boxholm and Ogden before graduating from Southeast Webster in 2005.
After an unfinished term in college, Shultz returned home to take care of his ailing parents, but eventually went back to school in 2012, getting a degree in Journalism and Digital Mass Communications from Iowa Central.
Since June of 2016, Shultz has been the sports editor of the Storm Lake Pilot Tribute, covering athletics for six high school districts and Buena Vista college. Starting in December though, Shultz is taking on new responsibilities, becoming the local reporter for Mid-America Publishing's two Boone County newspapers.
"I moved back into Boone this past Saturday and it fits like a glove," said Shultz.
The local newspapers don't just have a new editor either. Shultz will be working out of a new office space in Madrid at 124 S State Street for readers who want to send letters or stop in and say hello.
Happy to be back in his hometown area and close to his family, Shultz is eager to take on the challenge of expanding his coverage from sports to general news.
"I don't think there's a whole lot of difference," said Shultz. "At the end of the day you're still just talking to a human being."
Shultz can be reached by e-mail at news@madridregisternews.com or by phone at 712-299-0184 and is happy to accept story ideas from the community. People should feel free to get in touch with him if there is any news in the area they feel should get more attention.
