Watkinson fills newly created social media role at MAP

Christina Watkinson has joined Mid-America Publishing as Social Media Coordinator.

She is a graduate of Waldorf University with a Bachelor's Degree in Communications with a double emphasis in Journalism and Public Relations. She brings a wealth of knowledge of advertising, marketing, and social media with her diverse experience in the online world of the newspaper industry.

“Christina is a perfect fit for the new position,” said Ryan Harvey, President and CEO of Mid-America Publishing. “Her wealth of knowledge and her previous work experience with Molly dovetails perfectly into our digital department.

“By adding Christina to the staff, we are committing more resources to making Mid-America not just a newspaper company, but becoming a multi-media company,” Harvey added. “She’s going to help us improve not only in social media and online advertising, but bring new and innovative ideas in helping us to grow our company. In addition, she’s going to allow us to free Molly up to develop other areas of our digital platform as well.”

Prior to joining the team, Watkinson was the Digital Marketing Director for Farm2Ranch (owned by Times Citizen Communications in Iowa Falls) an agricultural resource website that she helped start up.

In her role there she worked with 15 different Farm Bureau publications along with staff to generate their online program. She has also worked in the online department at the Globe Gazette in Mason City.

“I am really excited to jump on and help take social media to the next level with all of the publications,” Watkinson said.

At Mid-America, Watkinson will primarily oversee all of the company's social media, but she will also serve as a general online department worker-bee as well. The online department's duties include everything from e-editions to online photo sales to digital ad design.

"I've been a department of one for almost eight years at Mid-America so I'm thrilled to have someone like Christina to bounce ideas off of," said Molly Angstman, MAP's Director of Digital Services. "Technology moves very fast and our company has been growing fast, too, so having another person in the online department is fantastic."

Originally from Dyersville, Watkinson now lives in Albia. Watkinson and her fiance Matt Risting, a pastor at First Baptist Church of Albia, are planning a December 2017 wedding.
