Mary DeWitt
Mid-America Publishing welcomed Mary DeWitt as a part-time office assistant at the Clarksville Star Office on March 22.
DeWitt will be in the Star office on Mondays and Fridays from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. and Wednesdays from 12 noon until 4 p.m.
“I think I’m really going to like the tasks. I enjoy the office setting, and I know a lot of people in town,” DeWitt said. “I was looking for something part time, and this is close to home; I can walk to work.”
A Clarksville native, DeWitt said she enjoys the small-town atmosphere. DeWitt graduated from high school in Clarksville and studied business for a year with an executive assistant course at the American Institute of Commerce (now Kaplan University). DeWitt worked at CUNA Mutual in Waverly for over 20 years.
DeWitt enjoys spending time with her husband Dick; sons, Curt and Corey; and grandchildren, Chloe and Cohen.
DeWitt loves animals and has a rat terrier named Sadie. She also enjoys camping, grilling and spending time outdoors.
Clarksville Star editor Bethany Carson said DeWitt has been busy with getting the office in order as well as helping customers and proofing articles for the paper.
“Mary is very thorough,” Carson said. “I think readers will notice an increase in the quality of content in the Star and Tribune. Mary is very diligent and pleasant to work with. I believe people will enjoy chatting with her when they come in to buy a paper.”

Mary’s life-long knowledge of the community will help her find contacts and information that would take time to develop. In addition, she’ll provide important staff support to our home office by taking some of the office work away from her.”
